Dr Ruby Hinepūnui Solly

Ruby Solly is a writer, taonga pūoro practitioner, composer, musician, and artist living in Pōneke. She has had two books of poetry longlisted for the Ockham book awards including 'Tōku Pāpā' (2019), and 'The Artist' (2023). She has played with the likes of Yo-yo Ma and Trinity Roots, and has composed for groups such as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and her own ensembles such as Tararua with Alistair Fraser, Ariana Tikao and Phil Boniface. She has recently completed a PhD in public health looking at the use of taonga pūoro within hauora, and is proud to be continuing this work around the motu guided by her tīpuna and tuakana.
